Board of Directors meeting minutes
September 3, 2008

Meeting opened at 11:20 am by George Bradt (President) at Bridgton Library in the downstairs conference room.
Attendance: George Bradt, Alan Crabtree, Karen Hawkins, Joanne Morse Charles Renneker
Absent: Dona Forke
Attending CCC event interested members: Mody Botros (Coordinator), Nancylou Stiles

*Treasurer report
checkbook and paperwork given to Chuck by Karen who obtained it from Woody Woodward, Chuck will give a report of status of finances at next meeting
            discussion about 501c3 process – mission statement may be used for “intent”, $500 standard filing fee (might be reduced to $150 depending on financial info), incorporating with the State of Maine costs $175 if we do it, $600 – 800 using a lawyer (total cost would run $700 – 1200)
*Mody brought letterhead stationery, it looks very professional, he will send Karen a pdf of it, she will upload it to the protected area of the web site
*Mody needs information to put together a brochure – Karen will call Joe Beecher to ask about permission to use past CCC event photos he took
*Fundraising was discussed
*Mody suggested a poster/essay contest on diversity in our community to all school age kids with a trip to Washington, D.C as the grand prize
*Chuck suggested we brainstorm ideas for other types of fundraisers
*We can reapply for a grant from the Hamm Foundation in Jan 2009 (need to verify if the money from the first grant has a deadline to be used)
*Joanne asked what expenses we may incur – prizes, advertisements, custodial fee for facility (LRHS), banners, printing charges, join Chamber of Commerce, ask for donation on water from Poland Springs in January, refreshments for meetings, 501c3 and Maine incorporation fees
*Alan will speak to Mike about joining the Chamber (get non-profit discount)
*Chuck suggested a list be put on the website for ideas (fundraisers, budget items, other ideas)
*Karen will send out an email to schedule the next meeting according to BOD members availability
*Mody asked about potential places to send info about the event – PSA (public service announcements) on TV LRTV, Time Warner, local stations), radio (WBACH), magazines (Downeast, Lakes Living), circulars (Bear facts, Northern Light)
*Alan suggested a possible idea for the CCC to sponsor – Senior education and/or library classes about cultural diversity
*need to have PR at other events (Brewers Fest etc)
*Fundraising ideas – 50/50 raffle, 120 club, calendar, raffle off a utility shed or cord of wood or fuel oil
